Base64 in HTML <link>

<link> can reference a data URI for a stylesheet or an icon, which is common in single-file HTML documents.

Example

<link rel="icon" type="image/png" href="data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAAAoAAAAK..." />
<link rel="stylesheet" href="data:text/css;base64,Ym9keXtjb2xvcjojMzMzfQ==" />

Notes

  • An inline favicon avoids the automatic /favicon.ico request.
