Base64 in HTML <embed>

<embed> hands the data to a browser plugin or built-in viewer, most commonly the PDF viewer.

Example

<embed src="data:application/pdf;base64,JVBERi0xLjQKJ..." type="application/pdf"
       width="100%" height="600" />

Notes

  • Chrome blocks very large data URIs in embeds; for PDFs over ~2 MB use a Blob URL created with JavaScript.
