Base64 Normalization

Normalization decodes the value leniently and re-encodes it in the canonical form of the target standard. Use it to convert Base64URL to standard Base64, remove line breaks, add MIME/PEM wrapping or fix padding.

Why normalize Base64?

Two Base64 strings can represent exactly the same bytes yet look different: one may use -_ instead of +/, have line breaks, or lack padding. Systems that compare, hash or sign Base64 values need a single canonical form. Normalization decodes the input and re-encodes it so the output is identical for identical data.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert Base64URL to Base64?

Choose "Standard (RFC 4648)" as the target and paste your Base64URL value. "-" becomes "+", "_" becomes "/" and padding is added.
