Base64 Standard Detector

Paste a value and the detector analyses its alphabet, padding and line structure to tell you which Base64 variants it is compatible with, and which one is most likely.

How detection works

The detector validates the value against each standard's alphabet (+/, -_, +,, .-, _:), padding rules and line structure (none, 64 or 76 characters per line, armor headers). A short value without special characters is often compatible with several standards at once; the most likely one is highlighted.

See all Base64 standards for details.

Frequently asked questions

How can I tell Base64 from Base64URL?

Base64URL uses "-" and "_" and usually has no "=" padding; standard Base64 uses "+" and "/". If a value contains none of these characters, it is valid in both.
