remove.bg announced it will shut down self-serve tools and APIs on 1 December 2026 and fold into Canva. Anyone who relied on free or API cutouts needs a replacement now—before the cliff.
What we ship instead
Use our Remove background tool:
| Mode | Best for |
|---|---|
| AI cutout | Portraits / people (MediaPipe runs on-device after one model download) |
| Smart edge flood | Logos & product shots on white, black or green screens |
- No signup
- No watermark
- No upload of your photo to our servers
- Transparent PNG download + Base64 / data URI
Why Reddit users care
Across 2026, Canva paywall threads and “why pay for background removal?” posts kept ranking. The pattern: people want free + private. The Network-tab test (no POST of the image) is how they verify.
