Base64 in CSS list-style

The list-style shorthand combines type, position and image. The type acts as a fallback if the image cannot be shown.

Example

ul.features {
  list-style: square inside url("data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAAAoAAAAK...");
}

Notes

  • If the data URI is invalid, browsers fall back to the list-style-type value (square above).
