Gzip Compress & Decompress
Compress text or binary with gzip (or deflate) entirely in your browser, then optionally Base64-encode the result for APIs. Reverse the process to decompress. Useful when every megabyte of mobile data counts.
Gzip before Base64 to save bandwidth
On prepaid mobile plans in Brazil and elsewhere, every megabyte matters. Gzip shrinks repetitive text and JSON dramatically; Base64 alone makes payloads ~33% larger. Compress first, then Base64 for APIs—or reverse the process when you receive a .gz payload.
- Images: use Compress image instead—gzip barely helps JPEG/PNG/WebP.
- Check servers: Gzip compression test for HTTP Content-Encoding.
- Size math: Base64 size calculator.
Read the guide: Compress before Base64.
Questions fréquentes
When should I gzip before Base64?
When you must put large text/JSON in a Base64 field: gzip first, then Base64. Receivers gunzip after decode. For images, prefer image compression instead.
Does gzip work offline?
Yes, after the page loads. Modern browsers ship CompressionStream; nothing is sent to our servers.
